Library Journal
This handbook of wit and wisdom is intended for ``second-generation gay American men,'' those who have ``comfortably integrated homosexuality into the whole person.'' Grouped into the categories ``Health & Image,'' ``Home,'' ``Love,'' ``Culture & Leisure,'' and ``Gay Identity,'' the 42 essays include personal narrative, advice, humor, and historical analysis, all advocating self-acceptance. The writing is very uneven; even the pieces by Armistead Maupin, Samuel Steward, and Donald Vining are not among their best. As a guide to gay culture and lifestyle, this collection lacks the depth of Lavendar Culture , edited by Karla Jay and Allen Young (Jove, 1978). James E. Van Buskirk, Acad. of Art Coll.
