Illustrations are organized by morphologic appearance for rapid diagnosis, and treatment is thoroughly described. This Second Edition is fully updated, includes more male genital disorders, and has new chapters on genital pain syndrome and on genital pruritus and the eczematous diseases.

The clinical color photographs are of superb quality and show the detail that one does not usually see in general dermatology references. The diagnostic discussions of the physical appearance of various skin entities are outstanding. The two authors obviously have expertise in genital dermatology, which is reflected in their therapeutic recommendations, differential diagnoses, and the nuances of medical laboratory and clinical evaluation. The first edition was published in 2004.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide dermatologists with a practical approach to diagnosing and treating various dermatologic disorders occurring in the genital regions.
Audience: The audience is dermatologists, although any physicians treating patients would benefit from owning this book — gynecologists, internists, pediatricians, urologists, etc.
Features: The book is organized by the physical appearance of the lesions physicians would see in a patient, so readers can pursue a logical thought process in establishing a reasonable differential diagnosis. By reading a particular chapter and examining the color photographs, one should be able to narrow the diagnostic possibilities with some confidence. Clinical tips are highlighted in colored boxes, which summarize the more detailed text. Dr. Edwards has shared her patient handouts on several skin disorders that readers could adapt for use.
Assessment: I have not encountered any comparable books on this subject. Drs. Edwards and Lynch have produced an outstanding reference on genital dermatology. I highly recommend it to all dermatologists. You will be impressed by the wealth of clinical knowledge. We all should take advantage of the experience being generously shared in this book. It would probably take you 30+ years of examining and studying only the genital area to gain the valuable information contained here. Why would you want to do that when you could easily read this book?
