George Eastman did not invent photography, but his many inventions made photography fun and easy. The company he founded—Eastman Kodak—was the first to make cameras small enough to hold in your hand and easy to use; you could take a picture with just the click of a button. And these cameras were ones that ordinary people could afford. This biography is part of the "Lives and Times" series, which "covers the life of a famous person." This snapshot of George Eastman's life—almost picture book in format with large print text and colorful illustrations on every page—is entertaining, informative and written for the youngest readers. Words highlighted in bold are defined in the glossary. And kids will readily understand the definitions given for photography-related words such as frame or plate. At the end of the book readers will find a Fact File (Eastman liked cooking so much he wrote a recipe book), the glossary, a list of more books to read and an index. 2004, Heinemann Library/Reed Elsevier, Ages 5 to 7.—Anita Barnes Lowen
