Synopsis

In Animal Farm, George Orwell crafts a timeless critique of political oppression through the story of Manor Farm’s animal rebellion. The pigs Snowball and Napoleon initially promise a fairer society, but as Napoleon consolidates power, the ideals of the revolution are twisted into propaganda. Through slogans like "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others," Orwell exposes the corruption of power and the dangers of totalitarianism. Orwell’s fable, written in clear, powerful English, remains essential reading for understanding how revolutions can devolve into dictatorships. It is still widely studied and referenced today. This is the English-language hardcover edition of Orwell's classic political fable. George Orwell. Animal Farm. First published: »Animal Farm: A Fairy Story«, Secker and Warburg, London 1945. Neuausgabe, LIWI Literatur- und Wissenschaftsverlag, Göttingen 2025.
