Synopsis

Infocus Article - English George Orwell's novel Animal Farm is described as an attack on Stanlinism, a lament for the fate of revolutions and the hopes contained in them, and a moving comment on humanity's constant compromise with the truth. The author suggests that while knowledge of the book's political background is not essential to its enjoyment, and understanding of the story as an allegoryfor Stalinist Russia enables a full appreciation of the work. He describes the events of Animal Farm in relation to the political realities they represent, to help readers who do not have this background knowledge. pp.221-232.
