KLIATT
The "Biography" series is related to A&E's biography series that appears on that television channel. Each volume is filled with photographs (mostly b/w, but there are many color photos in the George W. Bush biography) and reads something like an extended People magazine article. The Bush book takes events up to September 11th and shows how that tragedy has changed Bush's presidency. These are definitely introductions to the personalities involved and classified as "juvenile literature," so they are completely appropriate for middle school students as needed. Many other paperback editions are available in the series and the subjects are varied, from celebrities to politicians to world leaders, so librarians can choose what biographies will be most needed in their collection. Category: Biography & Personal Narrative. KLIATT Codes: JS—Recommended for junior and senior high school students. 2002, Lerner, First Avenue Editions, 112p. illus. notes. bibliog. index., Ages 13 to 18. An installment of the "Presidential Leaders" series, this biography of George W. Bush provides young readers a comprehensive look at the life of President Bush. The text begins with an introduction and quotation from the 2004 presidential acceptance speech and then looks back over the life and career of George W. Bush. The text is detailed, comprehensive, and in places a bit dense--geared more for the serious student. Black-and-white photographs follow the life of Mr. Bush from childhood through college, his career, his father's presidency, and his own presidency. In addition, the book includes a detailed timeline that goes from 1946 to 2006, source notes for the numerous quotations and references, a bibliography and list of Web sites for further reading, and a complete index. The book is positive toward Bush, but does address such controversies as the weapons of mass destruction, Hurricane Katrina, and Scooter Libby problems.Book Details
