Overview

GET WRITING: SENTENCES AND PARAGRAPHS is a flexible textbook that meets the needs of a variety of developmental writers including those in career and community as well as four-year schools, and those for whom English is a second language. GET WRITING gives students the opportunity to acquire skills and develop confidence in their own writing, by providing clear steps and strategies as well as practice opportunities. A colorful and engaging format with no daunting blocks of text helps students stay motivated and quickly grasp chapter content. Students can choose writing topics that relate to their own lives or chosen careers, with sample student, professional, and workplace models. GET WRITING promotes critical thinking skills by asking students to reflect on their choices throughout the writing process, and stresses the importance of evaluating, revising, and editing their writing.

Editorials

From the Publisher

"This book is comprehensive and provides lots of guidance to me as a teacher. Although I usually can't cover all the material offered, I find plenty to choose from for each topic I wish to talk about. I especially like the chapters on writing different kinds of paragraphs. I also like the way the material is presented, with colored boxes, sidebars and photographs to make the pages more interesting."

"[Chapters in Part I, Getting Started] provide an excellent overview of the writing process and the relation of writer to reader. . . The goal is to get these students into the transfer composition course, so the work on critical thinking and avoiding plagiarism are useful too."
