When that sitter turns out to be Araminta's supercool cousin, Mathilda, things start to look up—except Mathilda shows up with two rowdy ghosts who destroy the house and ignore all the rules. Can Araminta come up with a Plan to get rid of these two bad ghosts once and for all?
Children's Literature
This is book five of the "Araminta Spookie" series. Just silly enough to be entertaining and to hold a child's interest, it is the story of two young girls who live in a very unusual house. Araminta's Aunt Tabby and Uncle Drac and Wanda's parents win a trip to Transylvania. The adults leave the girls with sitters just before Araminta's birthday. With fussy Nurse Watkins and flaky older cousin Mathilda at a distance, the girls and their ghosts and bats have many adventures. Mathilda, Wanda, and Araminta order pizzaAraminta's first. On the way to the auction of armor-clad ghost Sir Horace's former castle, Araminta and Wanda teach him to ride a bicycle. Along with ghost dog Fang, ghost squire Edmund, and poltergeists Ned and Jed, Amarinta and Wanda fight a ghost battle to reclaim the castle. Later, Araminta finds that no one has forgotten her birthday. This fun adventure is a great way to encourage kids to read. The illustrations add to the adventure. Reviewer: Sue Poduska
