Children's Literature - Kristin Harris

The "Amazing Animal Series" offers early readers a look at the animal kingdom. Each title focuses on a particular animal, and provides information about what they eat, their habitat, enemies, and family life. There are six titles in this series. Giant pandas look very cute and cuddly. That makes them a very popular animal. Humans rarely see them in the wild because they are very shy animals. They are most frequently seen in zoos. Pandas live on bamboo. They have razor sharp teeth that allow them to eat the very tough bamboo. They eat about 30 pounds of bamboo a day. It takes them eight hours a day to eat that amount of bamboo. Most active at night, pandas will search for food during the day and rest. Today pandas' natural habitat is Southwestern China, where there is plenty of bamboo. Humans are the greatest threat to pandas. Loss of habitat, hunting, and pollution have led to a decline in the panda population. This book is nicely illustrated with numerous photographs.
