Gr 3-6 Ninth in a series of ten, God's Suffering Servant uses New Testament passages, primarily from the four Gospels, to retell the events of Jesus' last week on earth. Included are the stories of Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem; the Last Supper; and Jesus' arrest, trial, crucifixion, death, and resurrection. Each event is presented in a short chapter. The few illustrations are done in pencil. A map of Jerusalem indicates where the events occurred. This retelling, although simplified and more accessible to children's reading skills than the Bible, will not aid a child's comprehension of the scripture passages. Both the Bible and this retelling will require discussion and explanation between child and adult. Several version of the Bible, such as the Living Bible, purposely attempt to make the scripture more readable.Jennifer Smith, Northern Kentuky University, Highland HeightsBook Details
