From Barnes & Noble

The Barnes & Noble Review
Keri Hayes and Susan Kuchinskas have written an outstanding how-to book on evaluating the efficacy of mobile technology in a business. Going Mobile is a wonderfully lucid book, aimed at those with an average comprehension of technology in the workplace. The book is designed to guide business and industry managers through the labyrinth of evaluating, deciding on, and developing mobile applications.

Going Mobile covers the basics in bringing mobile technology to the workplace. Starting with an analysis of whether mobile technology is truly feasible in your business environment, this book covers how to define the wireless project, through mobile use in sales. For example, the authors begin by mapping the decision process necessary to proceed from developing a strategic vision for mobile data in the enterprise down to tactical questions such as what kinds of vendors to work with. Next, the authors offer a market-focused view of wireless, broken into the categories of mobile/wireless implementations. Within each category, they provide an overview explaining how a particular service is being used by various industries, or how an industry is leading the way in using mobile or wireless applications. Finally, the authors include a number of fairly brief plain-English case studies that demonstrate how a particular company or an agency has saved time, money, or labor by implementing the project.

For managers who are not deeply immersed in high-tech but are faced with improving yields and efficiency in a competitive world, this excellent book is a gold mine. It is full of sound and practical advice in stepping forward into the mobile world. John R. Vacca
