The author, Mark J. Rauzon, along with other scientists, observes a family of golden eagles at Devil Mountain, California. The adult eagles have a very busy life, as they are continuously feeding and caring for their young. The young eaglet grows up before our eyes in this book, both through beautiful photographs and the story of the chick's behavior. There are many fact pages throughout the book detailing much information about the eagles' habitat, the dangers they face and their interaction with the scientists. The scientists become the heroes in the book when they rescue the injured young eagle, repair her damaged wing and then return her to the wild. The book would be very useful for students doing research about eagles, as it has many facts, a glossary of terms and a reference page of other places to find information on golden eagles. 2000, Franklin Watts/Grolier Publishing, $22.50 and $6.95.
