Synopsis
Harvey Kurtzman (1924-1993) was best known as the creator of MAD, a publication that revolutionized American humor and culture in the 1950s, but some of his very best best work, like The Grasshopper and The Ant has remained undeservedly obscure. Kurtzman's bittersweet beatnik version of the venerable ?sop fable is a true classic of black humor. Grasshopper was created as a rare solo work for Esquire magazine in 1960, at the peak of Kurtzman's considerable powers, but this is the 1st book printing of the lost Kurtzman classic, reproduced properly also for the first time, directly from the exquisite original watercolor art. Each illustration is highlighted by spot lamination for added aesthetic effect. Nominated for a Harvey Award in 2002 and selected as ?One of the Best 100 Graphic Novels? in Steve Weiner's book of the same name.Book Details
