Overview
The plants selected for ground cover by most landscapers and designers are, by definition, low-growing, spreading, "creepy-crawly." In Ground Cover, John Cushnie takes a much wider view of these useful plants. His ideal description of a ground cover plant includes "a bold, dense, mass of leaves completely covering the ground most of the year." It would also mention that the applicant should require little or no maintenance. And the description should extend to heathers, conifers, shrubs, ferns, grasses βΉ even fruits, vegetables, and climbers. As Cushnie demonstrates, ground cover can be used for much more than discouraging weeds. Areas that are difficult to work, like steep banks or boggy patches, and places where not much will grow, such as deep shade or sandy soils, can all benefit from a generous cover of the right plant. With an international directory of 1,000 plants, and nearly 200 color photos, Ground Cover will show gardeners how to select beautiful, long-lasting, low-maintenance plants for every site.Book Details
