Overview

In her distinctive style, renowned photographer Penny Gentieu has ingeniously chronicled 20 babies over the course of an entire year. Spread by spread, month by month, babies and parents can share the fascinating stages of growth and celebrate each baby’s individual journey: smiling at three months, touching toes at five months, crawling at nine months–and developing his or her own special personality along the way! Every spread is brimming over with large, adorable photographs of this multicultural gang, who are sure to mesmerize babies, toddlers, parents, and caregivers. The gentle text serves as a reminder of baby’s capabilities at each stage of development.

Publishers Weekly

Board books abound for babies and toddlers. The sleek design and artful photography that made Penny Gentieu's Baby! Talk and Wow! Babies! just right for this sturdy format also applies to her record of baby's first year, Grow! Babies! Key monthly milestones (smiling, rolling over, crawling, etc.) are marked throughout.

School Library Journal

PreS-Using color photographs of 19 babies, Gentieu highlights the developmental milestones of their first year. Each spread features one large picture of a baby with smaller shots of all 19, usually at the bottom or top of the pages. The pictures show the infants engaged in an action appropriate for the text. "You are five months old. You found your toes-WOW!" For the first several months of life, the facts are generally correct. However, at nine months the author says, "You say your first word." It can sometimes be closer to 12 months before babies say their first word. At 12 months, the author says, "You know about forty words." Actually, youngsters are usually closer to 18 months before they know 40 words. Babies develop at different stages and the author presents misleading information by pinpointing exact months for specific actions.-Elizabeth O'Brien, Queens Borough Public Library, NY Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.|
