Library Journal
Edited by Rubin (director, Global Research in International Affairs Ctr.; editor, The Middle East Review of International Affairs Journal), this two-volume work consists of two introductory essays that provide a general overview and 40 essays discussing Islamist movements in particular geographic regions, organized into seven categories: sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Australia and the Pacific, Central Asia, North Africa and the Middle East, Europe, and the Western Hemisphere. Essays range between 15 to 20 pages in length and include bibliographies. Since the volumes are organized geographically, there is an extensive index that aids readers in locating information about individuals and particular groups. This reviewer wishes the editors had included cross-references within each article to help tie together similar factors or groups within multiple geographic sections. Some of these movements are international, and a way to link them within the work would have been helpful. BOTTOM LINE A readable and well-researched overview that would be a positive addition to academic and large public libraries.βRyan Johnson, Univ. of Mississippi Lib., OxfordBook Details
