Synopsis
A substantially revised and updated edition providing current information and recent advances in the field, with the same basic organization as the second edition. Part I contains chapters on the theory, principles, practice, and instrumentation of thin-layer chromatography (TLC). Part II addresses applications of TLC to a variety of compound classes and includes chapters on two new compound classes: hydrocarbons and herbals. Throughout, practical aspects are emphasized. Includes a subject index , an expanded glossary of relevant terms, and a list of sources of supplies and equipment. Intended for use by those in university, government, industrial, and independent testing laboratories that wish to understand and apply the principles of TLC. Of likely utility to chemists, biochemists, biotechnologists, forensic scientists, veterinary toxicologists, pharmaceutical analysts, environmental scientists, and graduate and undergraduate students in those fields. Booknews
A practical and comprehensive laboratory handbook, explaining the theories and general practices of thin-layer chromatography, and applications based mainly on compound types. Includes information for scientists with a high degree of expertise in the separation sciences, but also background material for the relatively neophyte chromatographer. The second edition updates the material from 1989 or before to as recently as 1995 in some cases; many chapters have been written by new authors either for practical reasons or to change the emphasis. A chapter has been added on automation and robotics in planar chromatography; no chapter is included on polymers and oligomers because no new information has emerged concerning them. Annotation c.
