Gr 4-7-Two biographies that trace the lives of gifted athletes from their early boyhood struggles to play the game they loved to breaking the racial barriers that faced players of their era and achieving Hall of Fame status. Both books include captioned color and black-and-white photographs. Large print and sidebars help expand the ideas presented. While standard report information is included, the straightforward texts lack the sort of interesting anecdotes and colorful language that can draw in readers.
