School Library Journal
K-Gr 2Two series entries that feature simple, concise texts, and sharp, full-color photographs. Both books provide beginning readers with a smattering of information on interesting subjects. Friendly Dolphins describes the behavior and physical characteristics of these mammals and discusses the politically correct world of dolphin-safe tuna. Hard-to-See Animals shows a variety of creatures, both predator and prey, and introduces camouflage. At the back of each book, a section called "Words You Know" matches terms from the texts, such as "flipper" or "blowhole," with a close-up of the appropriate visual image taken from the photographs. Fowler writes in a straightforward, almost conversational way that will entice youngsters. Although limited in scope, these titles are appropriate additions that can be read alone, read aloud, or shared one on one.Dina Sherman, Brooklyn Children's Museum, NY
