Gr 5-10-These titles offer a fresh approach for researching projects on presidents. Well-written narratives explore the subjects' lives, accomplishments, and political careers. In addition, the titles include Web sites that the series' editors have evaluated, saving students time and providing valuable resources for source documents, photographs, and other information. Photographs and Web pages, mainly in color, provide the books' illustrations. Truman begins with the controversial decision to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This decision is described as characteristic of the man's presidency, "straightforward" and "no nonsense." The book discusses the Marshall Plan and the Truman Doctrine. Taylor is a concise account of a great soldier who rose through the ranks to become a major general and the 12th U.S. president. Students will find not only valuable information in these books, but also will have an opportunity to learn to incorporate both electronic and print resources effectively into a report.-Lana Miles, Duchesne Academy, Houston, TX Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
