Synopsis

It's Harvey's birthday, so he and his friend Chip decide to bake a cake. Together, the two beavers find the ingredients, mix the batter, and bake a delicious cake.

Readers will love learning about the baking process, and a recipe at the end encourages them to bake their own cake.

Charlotte M. Krall - Children's Literature

One of two "Harvey" books, this title will get you and your child enthusiastic about baking together with a recipe and how-to hints that are included in this book. Harvey's friend Chip comes with tulips to wish Harvey a happy birthday. Together they put on aprons and prepare to make a cake. Step-by-step they gather ingredients, pans, and utensils. When the cake is baking in the oven they look at the mess they have made and clean up together. They set a table for two, take the cake out of the oven, and the doorbell rings. They share the birthday cake with all their animal friends who arrive. This is a fun book to share with young children. 2005 (orig. 1996), Kingfisher/Houghton-Mifflin, Ages 3 to 7.
