Synopsis
The Hawaiian Islands experience sweeps across the pages of Hawai'i, leaping forth from beaches and rocky coastlines, from the faces of hula dancers, from the ancient stonewalls of native fishponds and canoes plying the rough seas. Hawai'i celebrates the Hawaiian environment, taking fresh views of familiar Hawaiian scenes and showcasing remote spots that few have the chance to experience. Master photographer Douglas Peebles has hiked, boated and flown over every part of the Aloha State to capture an amazing sense of the Islands. Writer Jan TenBruggencate as a journalist has written about each of the Hawaiian Islands, including Ni'ihau and Kaho'olawe. Between them, they have unique qualifications to display and discuss the sense of Hawai'i.
Hawai'i covers each of the major islands, viewing their cultural beauty and their natural history. It investigates what long-time residents find special about the Islands, and will provide visitors with an unparalleled portrait of the enchantment of Hawai'i's outdoors.
Doug Peebles, one of the state's premier photographers, has flown over, crawled through, paddled along and slipped beneath the island's many landscapes to capture its soul in these images. Writer Jan TenBruggencate has covered the island as a journalist, a paddler and a hiker to capture a bit of its life in words.
