Synopsis

HEAVEN, HELL OR HOME, THE EARLY YEARS, is a chronicle that spans the early part of more than seven decades of my life. It is a live story, basically true, with some names changed and composites of others. It ranges form severe tribulations to rapturous joy, financially and emotionally. This fictional story is in three parts, using the author's understanding and viewpoint at each developing period of his life. It begins with a Foreword at a critical period: Joseph Burley is being operated on in a life-threatening situation. PART I: PRE-WARS DAYS covers the period prior to WWII, dealing with his family's entry into the U.S. Born into poverty and dissension in his family, and his father's early death, he is raised in a women-domainted household. He sets his own standards, with rigid self-discipline as his guideline. PART II: WORLD WAR II details his military career, with his wife now included. Their combined determination set them apart from other personnel, causing severe problems.
