Overview

Heidegger's critique of Western philosophy centers around his interpretation of Aristotle. Yet, hitherto, there has been no attempt to reconstruct the relation betwen these two thinkers, a major interpretative task for which Heidegger and Aristotle provides an initial orientation. Dr. Sadler focuses upon the 'question of being' and shows how their respective responses to this question ramify over the whole field of their philosophical thought.

Noting that Heidegger's critique of western philosophy pivots on his interpretation of Aristotle, Australian philosopher Sadler reconstructs the relationship between them. He focuses on how their respective responses to the Question of Being impact the whole field of their thought. His approach acknowledges the absolutist nature of Heidegger that modern thinkers shy from in distaste. The chapters cover being and the ousiological reduction; truth, language, and logic; and human existence. The treatment should be accessible to readers familiar with either philosopher but not the other. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
