School Library Journal
Four titles in a new series that presents the pros and cons of a variety of political, social, and moral issues. Excerpted opinions in article format are obtained from a wide range of publications: i.e. magazines, newspapers, and position papers by corporations and nonprofit institutions. Each book begins with an overview of the issue and then moves to specifics. Straightforward and well documented, the books have a no-frills approach in black and white; the only illustrations are political cartoons. The series is similar to the ``Opposing Viewpoints'' series (Greenhaven); the greatest difference is in their organization and in nuances of editorial philosophy. Teachers should find these a boon for social studies and classroom discussion; students often need materials that present many sides of an issue. These tailor-made products offer a no-nonsense approach to current events and affiliated schools of thought. --Celia A. Huffman, Cuyahoga County Public Library, ClevelandBook Details
