Most of the chapters in the present volume resulted from a Workshop on High-Level Connectionist Models, held in Las Cruces, New Mexico, April 1988, and address technical problems blocking the achievement of high-level cognitive processing in connectionist and neural networks, in particular the issue of the relationships between symbolic processing and connectionist processing.
