Gr 4-6 The series title is quite appropriate for this group of occupational narratives. Each one discusses the various situations and experiences which occur in each of the selected high-risk jobs. The large print text, which is quite readable, is composed of very short chapters. The color photos, of average quality, have brief captions. Bomb Squads. . . and Off-Shore. . . Workers are each introduced by a given situation. High-Rise Workers and Smokejumpers. . . begin with a brief history of the job. Each title describes the kind of work that is done in the individual occupation while emphasizing the high-risk factor of each job. Education and training needed are also stressed. Unfamiliar terms are defined in the text and in a glossary/index. Of the four titles, High-Rise Workers is the weakest because the equipment described in the text is not shown visually. The subject matter and the attractive covers will keep these titles moving. Eldon Younce, Harper Elementary School, Kans.Book Details
