Synopsis
Spadaccini (Spanish and comparative literature, U. of Minnesota) and Martin-Estudillo (Spanish literature and cultural studies, U. of Iowa) compile 12 chapters by international scholars in the fields of languages and literature that study Spanish texts from the 1600s. Taking the recent overhaul of the concept of Baroque as their springboard, the contributors consider differing views of the texts that are affected by the notion of power relations, and analyze institutions, subjectivities, social reflexivity, identity, and modern concepts of Ultrabaroque and Neobaroque in texts by Quevedo, Gracian, Garcilaso, and Cervantes, among others.
