ea. vol: 32p. diags. illus. photogs. glossary. index. (How It Is Made Series). CIP. Facts on File. 1987. PSm $10.95. Gr 7-10 These books give overviews of their respective topics. Each double- page spread constitutes a chapter which provides a summary of some as pect of the subject. History, tech niques, and technology are all ex plained in a general way. High-quality color photographs and diagrams on ev ery page explain and elaborate the text. Bold type is used for technical terms, but not all of the terms are in the glossa ry. There is some oversimplification, but this does not lead to confusion. How Maps Are Made includes activi ties which make this difficult topic more understandable. As these books include information about robots and computers in manufacture, they update many earlier books. Meryl Silver stein, Meyer Levin Junior High School, Brooklyn
