Gr 4-6Youngsters will find many books about dogs and cats, but few will be as good as these. The most striking feature is the abundance of excellent-quality full-color photographs and reproductions featuring numerous breeds. In both books, Zeaman explains how domestication probably occurred and why it has been advantageous to both humans and the animals. These titles are not care and training guides, but rather introductions to the history of dogs and cats as domesticated animals. The excellent lists for further reading include recommended Web sites.
