Each `chapter' is a double page spread with a large cartoon-like picture in the center of the page, information about the aspect, drawings to demonstrate the topic, and shorter paragraphs to explain more details. The chapters in this book include signing up, pay, training to fight, wearing a uniform, weapons, food, women, injuries, promotions, etc. The topics have been well researched, and accurate information is found throughout the book. Each chapter gives interesting information about soldier life. The end of the book contains a quiz to see how much information the student has learned about being a soldier, a glossary, an index, and a section on further reading. This book would be a great resource for a history class doing a unit on the Revolutionary war.
