Children's Literature -
Adults and children with a wide range of drawing abilities will benefit from this forty-eight page activity book. The first six pages include a "History of Drawing" and a basic description of "Equipment." Sections featuring "Technique," "Flora and Fauna," "Folklore," and "Some Famous Artists" follow. "A History of Drawing" lightly covers the development of drawing from cave paintings through ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Romans and the Renaissance to the present day. The chapters about "Perspective and Observation" and "Tone, Texture, and Color" are thoughtfully presented and illustrated, making them easy to follow. Step-by-step instructions throughout illustrate a variety of subjects of interest to children, including cats, dogs, flowers, birds, horses, leprechauns, fairies, and dragons. A twenty-three word glossary and an index are included. These projects would be best for middle and high school art or summer camp projects. They would also be good for enjoyable at-home use by budding artists. Reviewer: Debra Lampert-RudmanBook Details
