Mexican Americans have written ballads about Dolores, telling how she has spent her life trying to improve the lives of others. Humanitarians chronicles the fascinating lives and achievements of dedicated female activists around the world. Inspiring photographs highlight key events and accomplishments in each woman's career while fascinating backgrounder boxes add interesting information about their particular time period covering such subjects as migrant farm workers, Braille, India, the independence of Mozambique, president Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the Great Depression, missionaries, and much more. The achievements of a dozen other distinguished women are briefly highlighted along with a glossary, an index, and a suggested reading list for further exploration.
