Synopsis

Optimus Prime is a strong and powerful Autobot. When the evil Decepticons arrive, Optimus is ready to fight! Can he and his friends save the Earth before it,s too late?

Children's Literature

Optimus Prime, leader of the transforming robots-in-disguise known as the Autobots, has pledged himself to protecting humankind on Planet Earth. In past battles, he fought victoriously against Megatron and his evil-doing forces known as the Decepticons. Now, he faces an even greater threat—The Fallen, who wants to wipe out the earth completely and all that live there. Feeding off of the energy around him, The Fallen grows stronger and stronger, aiming to absorb even the sun itself. Optimus Prime must rally his forces to battle once again. Favorite characters such as Bumblebee, Ironhide, Sideswipe, and the Twins all make an appearance, bravely following their leader in action-packed skirmishes. In the end, Optimus Prime personally sends The Fallen spiraling into deep space, and the Autobots are victorious once more. In this Level 2 "I Can Read" book, developing readers will find fast-paced action, along with a nice mix of familiar and challenging vocabulary. Surprisingly sophisticated words such as "optimus" and "decepticon," will be recognizable for Transformer-loving boys and girls. For those unfamiliar with the Transformers' mythology, these names may be difficult initially. With text that propels the story forward and comics-inspired illustrations, this beginning reader is a sure hit with even the most reluctant reader. Reviewer: Leah Hanson
