Synopsis

Simple text and photographs show various ways children can be responsible.

School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 2-These small format titles focus on one character trait each. Through one or two simple sentences per spread, children describe the way in which they embody the characteristic. A respectful boy is featured waiting his turn, recycling, saying thank you, and grooming himself. A little girl acts responsibly by feeding her goldfish, arriving on time for swimming lessons, and remembering her school supplies. Full-page, clear, color photographs accompany the texts. Both narrators are Caucasian. Responsible offers a more diverse cast of characters. The Web sites listed are more suitable for slightly older children, and one is directed at teachers. These simple introductions will supplement citizenship units. For a more detailed look at these topics, try Lucia Raatma's Respect and Responsibility (both Bridgestone, 1999).-Melinda Piehler, North Tonawanda Public Library, NY Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
