This Classic Books with Holes series is really popular. It allows the reader to see who is playing what through the box, it is beautifully illustrated and should provide fun and a good old sing song.

Children's Literature

One of the "Classic Books with Holes" series based on a children's nursery song, this one is based on the song, I am the Music Man. Although this one may be unfamiliar to Americans, many of the other books feature the familiar songs of There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, Old MacDonald and The Farmer in the Dell. The large, colorful books use these repetitious songs and accompanying cut-out pages to keep youngsters focused as the various stanzas of the song that are sung or read. In this book, the music man progressively names various instruments and as the pages are turned, a young person appears in a cut-out window playing that instrument. The cartoon-like drawings feature children of all abilities, and the final page uncovers all of the many musicians mentioned. The text repeatedly appears on successive pages so that youngsters will soon be "reading" the text as well as the illustrations. For those unfamiliar with the tune, it is printed on the outside of the book. The books are available as board books, soft cover books, or Big Books with additional activities. 2005, Child's Play, Ages 4 to 7.
