Overview

Is it possible to "create" creativity? Especially in the workplace, where people are paid to do rather than "dream"? Absolutely. And in a business climate where companies must do more with less money and fewer resources, Idea Power is the one book to consult. It delivers all the information needed, whether you want to solve specific problems, stimulate new ideas, or start a full-fledged creativity training program. Arthur B. VanGundy has helped clients like Hershey Foods, Xerox, Monsanto, and Hallmark become more creative. He's an expert at helping people view problems from different perspectives and generate new solutions. His jargon-free ideas will help you do the same with all employees - not merely those in R&D or new product development. Creativity training requires knowledge about the creative process and the training tools and techniques available to teach it. Until now, that knowledge has been scattered across a wide variety of sources. Idea Power is the first book to put it all in one place; you simply won't find a better combination of concepts, reference materials, and how-to guidelines on:. Business creativity. David Rouse

VanGundy heads his own consulting firm, which specializes in corporate and workplace creativity. He has already written six books on creativity and problem solving. Here he targets individuals who wish to improve their own creative thinking skills and those charged with setting up or running creativity training programs. His book is divided into four sections. He first details the need for business to encourage creativity and innovation and describes training activities and organizational structures that can be used to foster or encourage new ways of thinking. This is followed by a collection of exercises, puzzles and posers, and problems designed to stimulate ideas and improve problem-solving proficiency. VanGundy then lists other techniques and activities that can be used by individuals or in groups. Finally, he devotes almost 100 pages to identifying training resources, such as films, videos, computer software, audiocassettes, games and tools, and books. A thorough bibliography on creativity and problem solving is included.
