Overview

"Hello, operator, I'd like to speak to GOD please?"

If only God had a telephone number. Whenever you're feeling a bit confused, all you would need to do is pick up your cordless and give Him a ring, or at least page His beeper.

God doesn't have a phoneβ€”but He wants to give you answers. He's left you an instruction manual, the Bible, to help you through your walk on this earth. But all Christians at some point in their faith stumble upon a question they have a difficult time finding an answer to. Not to mention the questions you've always had but were afraid to ask.

If I Could Ask God One Question is ideal for sorting through questions about God, the Christian faith, and the Bible. Questions such as:

  • How do I forgive someone who's hurt me?
  • Why do I need to read the Old Testament?
  • Is temptation a sin?
  • What does God have to say about parties?

Β…as well as many others are sensitively answered and will reassure you that God isn't afraid of a heart that is genuinely looking for an answer.

Provides answers to some questions that teenagers commonly ask about God and the Christian faith.

Editorials

VOYA - Heidi Borton

Seven years ago the author, former editor of the popular Breakaway magazine for Christian teenage boys, wrote the first edition of this title. Subsequently he received many more questions about the Christian faith from teens, eighty of which are included in this book. Most are answered in one or two pages, making them perfect for devotional reading or as group discussion starters. A stated assumption is that the Bible as God's Word contains wisdom for life's questions and that while some things are unknowable in this life, God welcomes honest doubters and questioning minds. Johnson's own background as someone who came to faith in Christ as an eighteen-year-old from a drug-abusing, dysfunctional family enables him to relate fully and sympathetically to new, young believers. He understands and writes wisely about non-supportive families, dealing with temptation, overcoming destructive habits and thought patterns, and learning to cultivate an intimate relationship with a loving God. Highly recommended for its relevance to the everyday lives and challenges faced by teens, this book would have been improved by a topical index and list of books for further reading. VOYA Codes: 4Q 4P M J S (Better than most, marred only by occasional lapses, Broad general YA appeal, Middle School-defined as grades 6 to 8, Junior High-defined as grades 7 to 9 and Senior High-defined as grades 10 to 12).
