Gr 8 Up-This title addresses four major questions: Is illegal immigration a serious problem, is it harmful, are illegal immigrants treated fairly, and how should the government respond to the situation? Each chapter contains six to eight clearly written articles and excerpts from newspapers, journals, books, and publications of various organizations, giving differing points of view. Although the first two chapters devote twice as much space to affirmative answers as to negative responses and half of the selections included in the book are from 1995 or 1996, the work nonetheless brings to the fore the current arguments about the impact of illegal immigration. It covers not only the oft-reported situation at the Mexican border, but also the problems along the Canadian border and with visa abusers. The book is similar in scope and content to Charles P. Cozic's Illegal Immigration (Greenhaven, 1996), but somewhat more current. A useful tool for reports and debates.-Diane S. Marton, Arlington County Library, VA Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
