Overview

The Society of Illustrators Annual of American Illustration remains the original and most comprehensive compilation of today's excellent illustration.Featuring innovative, exciting work by both established illustrators and newcomers, Illustrators 45 is the finest reference to up-to-date illustration trends in an ever-changing industry. With over 400 examples chosen from more than 6000 entries, Illustrators 45 showcases both classic solutions and novel approaches to client needs in an exciting and informative package. Each year a jury of professionals selects the best work in the categories of Editorial, Book, Advertising, Institutional, and Uncommissioned illustration, as well as the Society's newest category, Sequential, championing narrative illustration that tells a story (as in comics and graphic novels). Also, Illustrators 45 features brief profiles of this year's Hall of Fame recipients: Elaine Duillo (the queen of romance novel cover illustration); David Levine (the sharpest satiric cartoonist since Thomas Nast); William Henry Mauldin (Pulitzer-winning creator of the 1940's quintessential soldiers Willie and Joe); and Jack Potter (who influenced illustration both through his own impressionistic style and through his years as a dedicated arts educator.)
