Synopsis

Using a combination of management and medical expertise, this book health care administrators develop and improve quality assurance programs. It focuses on procedures for the medical audit which, although now well-established in health care practice, need constant review and improvement to be truly effective.

Katherine F. Lufkin-Herrema(Medical College of Wisconsin)

This logically organized book begins by attempting to define quality of healthcare and proceeds with considerations, development, and measurement and ends with the improvement process. The purpose of the book is to supply information on the many facets that need to be considered when evaluating or implementing a process on improving the quality of patient care. The objective of this book is to give individuals responsible for the quality of patient care a basis from which to start and what to consider. There are quality models that can be considered and a wealth of information. The preface of the book indicates that this book is intended for practitioners as well as managers. However, I believe this book could be a starting point for any group responsible for the improvement process within an organization. Illustrations are used throughout the book to emphasize a particular point. The appearance of the book is eye catching. The cover is simple yet appealing. The brief description on the back cover gives a clear summary of the contents of the book. This book contains a great deal of information, some of which was new to me. This subject is one that most healthcare organizations are concerned about or should be. This book presents a total look at the many angles of quality within health care and what needs to happen for changes to be successful.
