About the Author, Toby J. Karten

Toby J. Karten has been involved in the field of special education for since 1976 and has worked with children and adults in elementary through graduate levels. Developer of a graduate course on disability awareness, Karten has presented at local, state, and national workshops and conferences and has served as a resource center teacher in New Jersey. She has an undergraduate degree in special education from Brooklyn College, a master's degree from the College of Staten Island, and a supervisory degree from Georgian Court College.
