Children's Literature - Della A. Yannuzzi

Author Bednar gives an overall picture on the popular television show, American Idol. He looks back at the best and most famous contestants, including comments from the winners, judges, and American Idol experts. American Idol's eighth season premiered on January 13, 2009. More than 100,000 people auditioned, from which 14 contestants were selected. Of these 14 contestants, five finalists were chosen. On May 20, Kris Allen defeated Adam Lambert to become the newest American Idol. Behind this American phenomenon is Simon Fuller, a British talent manager looking for a way to discover new stars. In spite of its success, Fuller had trouble finding a television home for American Idol, but once it did, it became a world-wide popular talent show. Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson are only two of the many talented singers that have emerged as American Idol winners. The future of American Idol is strong, with auditions already scheduled for season nine. The author has written a busy book filled with lots of information and detail about the show and its winners. Color photographs are included as well as a chronology, glossary, a list of further reading, and a list of internet resources. Reviewer: Della A. Yannuzzi
