Overview

The Proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Integral Methods in Science and Engineering, form a collection of papers addressing the solution of mathematical problems from various physical domains by integral methods in conjunction with various approximation schemes. Written by acknowledged experts, these peer-reviewed papers offer recent developments in both theory and application valuable to applied mathematicians, engineers, and physicists.

"...based on the International Conference of Integral Methods in Science & Engineering...these papers are the most outstanding in the field, written by acknowledged experts & peer-reviewed for wide appeal."

This volume contains three invited papers and 57 of the contributed papers presented at the last biennial international conference on Integral Methods and Engineering (IMSE98) held at Michigan Technological U., where Bertram is based. The invited papers focus on mathematical modeling of N-body quantum scattering processes in atomic and nuclear physics, microhydrodynamics of sharp corners and edges, and acoustic scattering by irregular obstacles. Arranged alphabetically by first author's name rather than subject area, a sampling of other topics includes: Volterra-type integral geometry problems, polarization gradient in piezoelectric micropolar elasticity, a two-dimensional numerical model of chemotaxis, a new theorem concerning the Buckingham Rayleigh methods, and new systems of -ary integral equations. Lacks an index. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
