The results of the projectpresented in this book include:

- an FTAM document type for CGM, which has been submitted for international standardization;
- contributions to the development of a mapping of the X Windows protocol onto an OSI stack;
- contributions to the development of an ASI.1 notation for CGM and issues associated with the generation of CGM encodings for this;
- experience of using CGM and FTAMfor a prototype application running over public data networks.
The book reports practical experience of an approach to the design and implementationof distributed applications using graphics and networking services in combination.
