This collection brings together 33 articles and a large selection of abstracts on the therapeutic use of gardens and nature. Among the case studies are two designs for Alzheimer's garden projects, use of gardens in hospital and mental hospital settings, methods for studying responses to nature, use of horticultural and reminiscence therapies with cognitive-impaired elderly, horticultural intervention for stress management, and several articles on facilitating communication between the horticulture, healthcare, and design communities (to which the contributors belong). Candice A. Shoemaker is currently associate professor in the Department of Horticulture, Forestry and Recreation Resources at Kansas State University—Manhattan. She was formerly the director of the Chicago Botanical Center and from 1991-1996, she served as assistant professor, faculty coordinator and program director; horticulture; Berry College, Mount Berry, Georgia.
