Synopsis
Articles on international economic regulation collected here, previously published in journals in the 1990s, span the early period of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the financial crises of 1997 and 1998, and the failure of the WTO ministerial meeting in Seattle in 1999. They reflect the conflicts in ideology, interests, and objectives that make the regulation of economic activity in an international environment so difficult. Articles are organized in sections on four contrasting perspectives, regulating international finance and investment, the multilateral development banks, the WTO, new issues, and legitimacy and sovereignty.
