School Library Journal

Gr 9 Up

This volume is too simple for adults-though 10 of the 12 essays clearly address them-but on the other hand, it will not interest teens. The pieces presented are opinion articles not supported by cited research. The introduction tells the true story of a teen abducted by a man she met online, an account that seems designed to frighten readers. The first essay, written by a teen-services librarian, is an explanation of the social benefits of online social networking sites. Its description of how the sites work is clearly not written for teens. The next article, "MySpace Can Be Harmful to Teens," addresses parents. Although two essays about identity theft and Internet safety are appropriately written for adolescents, this book is poorly constructed in its lack of audience focus.-Rebecca Sheridan, Easttown Library & Information Center, Berwyn, PA
