WILLIAM STALLINGS is a consultant, lecturer, and author of over a dozen professional reference books and textbooks on data communications and computer networking. He has received the award for the best Computer Science textbook of the year from the Text and Academic Authors Association three times: Computer Organization and Architecture, Fourth Edition (Prentice Hall, 1996); Data and Computer Communications, Fifth Edition (Prentice Hall 1997); and Operating Systems, Third Edition (Prentice Hall 1998).
