Children's Literature
This book in Carolrhoda's "A Ticket to" series is simply a watered-down version of the same book in Carolrhoda's "Globe-Trotters Club" series. The same color photographs are featured along with many of the same sidebars. The text covers essentially the same areas with significantly less detail and explanation. This allows for a larger typeface, but makes the book far less useful as a report tool. Adults may be bothered by references to Arab-Israeli conflict in a book meant to expose very young children to the flavor of a country. Kindergartners who like to browse will find the "Globe-Trotters" version of this book just as attractive. This ersatz version should be skipped in favor of the real thing. 2000, Carolrhoda, Ages 4 to 8, $22.60. Reviewer: Jackie Hechtkopf
